Palm Desert, California, United States
We had high cloud cover today so after sleeping in a bit we drove into PS to Elmer's on E Palm Canyon Dr. And had a great breakfast. I had Eggs Benedict with fresh fruit and W had a German Pancake that is like a Pannenkoeken with rolled up edges. Quite yummy! Then we were offt. O the Air Museum by the Airport...it's mostly WWII aircraft divided into hangers... One reflecting the European War and the other the Pacific war.. The majority of aircraft are totally restored and flight capable and came from the collection of a fellow from Minneapolis by the name of Pond who lived here part time and flew the planes here with his wife.. There are B17, a Mustang, a Spitfire a Bi Plane etc. there are also displays of various fliers, squadrons and info about campaigns and battles.. Met a nice docent from Kansas City who had been a Navy flier in the 50s. He explained the war in the Pacific, which was interesting as I am reading a book about the occupation of Malaysia by the Japanese.
Then we were off to the PS Art Museum which is a really nice gallery with a number of significant works ...several Henry Moore sculptures, Remington and Russell paintings of the old west and a temporary exhibit of Catlin paintings of the Plain Indians and Buffalo hunts from the 1800s. There was a large number of modern pieces as well and a very nice outdoor sculpture garden. We found Koffie on South Palm Canyon and had a latte in the courtyard. It was not quite as warm today...just 25 or so. Then we had a beer at a touristy Mexican restaurant...Las Conzeulas Terraza .....not exciting so we stopped for a great pizza at Michaels at The River... Then back to the hotel for a soak in the hot tub and now we are enjoying the warm evening on the balcony and sipping a glass of Kim Crawford..still partially cloudy but we hope to get up early tomorrow and hike up at The Thousand Palms oasis.
