Hiking in the desert

Palm Desert, California, United States
Today we hiked 10 km at the Coachella Nature Preserve which is neat Thousand Palms and on the San Andreas fault. We arrived around 0930 before it was too hot and started out for the first oasis trail...he palms are 50-60 feet tall around the oasis which is caused by the ground water pooling due to the fault lines. The ground was actually quite boggy at times. Then we hiked the Moonwalk trail which is real desert...sandy, rocky and hot....much more bleak and with less vegetation the Joshua Tree.. Met a nice couple from Victoria on the hike. We were finished by noon and drove to Shields Date farmed Garden in Indio. Other than taste testing some of the yummy dates it was a touristy place and we didn't stay long. We found a great Deli at Bristol Farms on Monterey and Country Club and bought salads etc for dinner...also explored Costco where we found Kim Crawford for 10.95. That's half the price back home.. Went to the pool at the hotel for the afternoon and enjoyed their Happy Hour with free beer and wine and taco salad.....it was really quite good.. PSAT outside around the patio fireplace and met another couple from Whistler, a group of golfing friends from Montreal and Dana from LA...it was fun to chat around the fire.
