Paris, Ile-de-France, France
Well the last few days have been busy.... Monday we slept in again ....Allie's bed is very comfy. Went to the V +D for a late breakfast and sat on their terrace in the sunshine. it was a lovely day...20 and clear skies all day. We walked over to Claire's and sat on her terrace in the sunshine as we tried to fix her bike and do a few other shopping items at Blokker and Hema. It was so warm I actually burned a bit. later in the afternoon we walked the Onze Lieve Frauplein and sat on the terrace of the Comodie restaurant which is a Maastricht icon and hard to find a terrace seat. Very nice white wine and people watching. Around 8:00 we met Lucky and Claire's friends Jill and Max at an Indonesian restaurant on Rectstaat right below Jill and Max's apt. The food was so so but the evening was very nice. We had a chance to talk with Daan(Lucky) but one t as much as I would have liked. He seems very nice but a bit quiet. We had met Jill before on the last trip at Le Shiejk .....she will be starting work in Dusseldorf as soon as she can get a German Work Visa and Max works with Camilla who is Jills friend. He is from Lyon so was giving me lots of info re Lyon and France

Tuesday May 6 - we woke a bit earlier and walked over to Claire's after shopping at Albert Heines and a wonderful Deli near Claire's house called Solana? Which supplies the bread to Le Shiejk . They have wonderful crusty bread and sweets and cheese, sausages etc. very nice lady as well. We had breakfast on the terrace until a rain shower hit and we moved everything inside. Later we met Inez and Klaas who are on their way to their boat and did a bit of shopping. After dropping off the stuff we walked over to the Onzelievefrauplein and unfortunately could not find a place at the Comodie so sat in the middle under the trees. Very nice white wine and we all shared a cheese plate. We walked over to Le Shiejk at 5:30 for supper and I had the Quiche with salad and W had a huge ham shank which was very yummy.. Of course the frites were wonderful, as was the wine and Creme Brule. We enjoyed the ambiance and had a great evening. Later We walked back to Laternastraat and said goodbye to Inez and Klaas and good night to Claire....went back to Allie's and packed and then had a cup of tea with Allie, Leo and their daughter. Very nice people and Leo May have a contact that might know of an internship for Claire.
This morning we were up at 6:30 and Allie drove us to the train station for a 0815 train to Liege where we changed to the Thalys to Paris Nord . The weather continues to be so so....clouds with sunny breaks.
Well we arrived on time after a very comfortable train trip first on the regional train from Maastricht to Liege and the on the Thalys to Gare du Nord in Paris. We found the connection to Metro line 4 and then after 4 stops to M 3 to Sentier and we found the apartment at 17 Rue St Joseph without any trouble. The apt is very nice although the building could use some renovation....cute courtyard with plants but there were work aeon when we arrived fixing the sewer and had a camera on a probe which they were guiding with a video display. The apt is very nice...cleaned thoroughly and both the bed and couch seem comfy....guess we will know after tomorrow. Everything is newish and other than recommending a few more pictures on the walls and a bread basket there seems to be everything we need.
We walked down Rue Montorgueil to find some supplies and bought some bread and cheese, veggies and fruit and of course wine. Now we are about to find the nearest Boulangerie for tomorrow's breakfast and then find a restaurant to have a glass of wine .
So it's almost time for bed...found a nice Boulangeries on Rue Montorgueil and bought a nice multi grain baguette which we ate with the very old Mimolette, very stinky but yummy Brie and a smal Chèvre as well as a chunk of white cheese I think called Comte. Also found the Boulangeries on Rue Monmartre for break iets tomorrow.
We took everything back to the apt and after a short monsoon the sun came out and we went exploring. We found Frenchies wine bar on Rue Niles but it doesn't open until19:00 and we didn't want to wait so long(it was only 18:00).so we walkedalongRue Montorgueol again and went to a restaurant on Rue Toutine called The Lizard. Had a very nice Cote du Rhone and watched the world go by..... We walked on after about an hour along Etienne Brule to Rue Vivianne and went through the Passage which was cool then found the other wine bar ...Verjus which is by Palais Royale. Went through the garden and then home again for supper. Unfortunately there are only 2 wine glasses and no bread basket and the person in the apt upstairs walks like an elephant. Small complaints tho when you are in Paris.
