Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland
Walter left for the airport after a great breakfast...typically Swiss with eggs, potatoes, bacon, cold cuts and cheese, lots of different breads and buns, fruit, Muesli yogurt and good coffee with warm milk.i went to the airport with him and did a little window shopping in the airport mall. it's 3 levels of shops attached to the train station below the airport and has everything from clothes to shoes to fodd markets to reastaurants and bars. There's H+M, Mangp,Geiser, Globus...and of course lots of up scale jewellery and watch stores. I checked out Starbucks and the Grande Latte was 7.20 Swiss F......which is about $10.00 Canadian.....a bit expensive.
I took one of the many trains downtown and started to explore Bahnhofstrasse and the old town of Zurich . There are several. Rey nice department stores along Bahnhofstrasse...Glogus and Jelmoli are very high end somewhat like Holt's and there is one called Manor which is more like upscale Bay. Manor also has a nice cafe like V+D in Holland. Globus and Jelmoli have very nice upscale Resto like Nordstroms as well. There are others as well like C+A but after window shopping for a couple of hours I had a Creme cafe in Manor and sat while it poured outside.
The rain didn't last long so I checked out the old winding streets for all the nice cafés for Walters cafe tomorrow. I found some nice cafés: C age Felix is attached to Teuscher Chocolate and sweet Shop and is very elegant and old .....probably expensive as well; cafe Odeon is more modern but looks yummy....Confiserie Honold is on one of the main streets in old town Rennweg and is more like a regular Conditorei but also busy which is a good sign. Also found the Weggan Cafe down a little alley...looks old and Viennese like....also crowded. But the Cakes etc at Manor were cheaper and looked very yummy too .
Along the way I found a Whiskey shop called Liquid Pearls on Oberdorferstasse, which specializes in whiskers, port, sherry, spirits.....lots and lots of expensive, lovely Scotch etc.
They have tasting and evenings which would be fun.
I realized that I had to hurray to get back to the hotel to change for the dinner with Edelweiss ..met W at 17:00 at the airport and met Nesti, Bruno and Phillip fro Edelweiss. We took the train first and then transferred to a private train to go up Uetliberg which is a local mountain...about an hour out of town. We had to walk up hill the last 15 mins or so and wow what a view from the top....you can see all Zurich and you are on the side of the lake looking across it so you can see all the boats coming and going.....we watched the eagles and the clouds for awhile and then went inside for a lovely meal. I had a salad, lamb and W and I shared a Meringue for dessert. We also had a white and red local wine which was excellent....it was a very nice evening and we didn't get home until close to midnight.
