Mills River, North Carolina, United States
Another wonderful breakfast on our last morning at Lucilles....yummy French Toast with whipped cream, then a quiche with mushrooms and cheese and turkey sausage, with an apple muffin. We then packed and left after chatting with Jerry....we drove alon Ga 250 then 197 past the Old Sautée General Store where we stopped for a visit. It really is very old...dates from 1872 and the left side of the store is filled with old, antique store goods.. At the back it is more like a deli with added stuff..a bit like a small Coombs.
We then drove north via Lake Burton to Clayton, then Mt. city which was a small strip of stores along the hwy, then Dillard which was also a strip along the road...not very impressive! We thought Clayton was much nicer! We drove further north I to the Sky alley and I to NC. It was really pretty along the border.... More mountainous and craggy with twisty roads and valley vistas. We arrived into Highlands and had a coffee and pecan pie at the Old Edwards Hotel...quite a posh place. We sat on the patio and thwn walked thru town.then thru Cashiers, Sapphire and Lake Toxaway...every place you look has a country club or gated community...it's an area where we'll of people from Atlanta come for holidays. Very manicured
The road thru Brevard is very twisty and we finally drove up to see Looking Glass Fall about 8 miles up Hwy 276 from Hwy 64. Then back to Hwy 64 to Mills River and the BnB on Tiffany Hill. We were greeted by Selena the owner who is very gregarious and talkative.. She oriented us to the BnB and all the local attractions etc. we were then invites to join her and 2 repeat guests, Pam and Simon from Yorkshire.... Pam is also talkative...they have been visiting h the area repeatedly since 1996 ....we talked and shared some wine on the back patio. We also met Tuxedo the cat. We then drove to Biltmore Village and had a great supper at 313 Main Street. I had a very nice salad and W had yummy baby back ribs.. Tomorrow we will explore Asheville!
