A sunny day in Savannah

Savannah, Georgia, United States
Had a comfy sleep and a breakfast at the grand dining area at 314 Habersham. The day is lovely...it's 24 and blue sky and windy. We started out Turing left out our door to Troup Square, our first to explore. It's lovely with tall Spanish Moss covered trees and a Sun Dial in the middle. The Sun Dial is a large turtle supporting a number of smaller turtles on its back....the whole historic area is about 1.5 miles square so very easy to walk and explore. Habersham runs sort of North east so we set off first to check out Forsyth Park Via Jones then Bull St.. Through Monterey Sq.
Forsyth Square is large and lush and has a lovely fountain in the middle . Today there was a Walk for Cancer and there were hundreds of families walking around the park. This is definitely a city for young party types as it appears you can buy and walk with your drinks? Lots of tourists...of course it's the weekend and I think this is a weekend place a little like Las Vegas.
After Forsyth Park we walked along Barnard St via Chatham Sq, then Pulaski Sq., left onto Liberty to the Visitor Center. Wouter and Klaas and I went to the train Museum which was not too impressive. We found a great coffee place on the corner of Bull and W Perry St called Gallery Expresso. We had lattes and cherry cheesecake...yummy!
Inez and Klaas went to find a trolley tour and Wouter and I walked down Bull to Bryan St, then turned left to the City Market area which was touristy...lots of bars and tacky souvenir shops....lots of people though and a couple of good buskers playing Jimmy Buffet.
We then walked down some very steep stairs to the arrived Walk which used to be the Cotton Warehouse area.....more tacky bars and shops....also a large market...mostly cheap, tacky stalls but there were a couple artists that were interesting. ....it's Octoberfest and they even had an Om pa pa band and bratwurst tents.. Way too many people trying to have a good time.
charleston is definitely more sophisticated.
We walked back via Reynolds Sq., then Oglethorpe Sq.then the Colonial Cemetary and then St Johns Cathedral and then home where we cleaned the patio, killed the wasps and sat to update the diary.
