Sedona to Prescott to Wickenburg Arizona

Wickenburg, Arizona, United States
It's a cloudy day in Sedona and the rocks are definitely not as colorful as yesterday! Walked across the street to Desert Flour Bakery and Bistro and had a very good breakfast of Scrambled eggs, toast and bacon and W had hash browns as well.....two lattes and we were set. We are off to Prescott via Hwy 89A and will eventually get to Wickensburg where there is a Blue Grass Festival tonight. Will be stopping along the way for a few photos as well.
Sedona to Jerome .....twisty Hwy through red a rock hills, climbing up to 6000 ft to Jerome which was a copper mining area in the late 1800s up until 1956. The town is perched on a number of hills with abandoned houses and buildings like houses, an old hotel, school etc..There were up to 15,000 people with schools, hospitals, and a railway and of course salons and brothels....the town became a ghost town in 1960s and now only has about 450 ....all the structures are perched on the cliffs and there were a number of slides in the 30s due to blasting in the pit mines and the Verde fault line that runs through the town. It has reinvented itself as a ghostly town as well as an artist/ gallery town with some really nice galleries. There is a kaleidoscope show that is really amazing....absolutely beautiful example...also a number of pottery shops, old saloons and a very nice local Historic Museum..it was a very nice surprise.
Jerome to Prescott- the drive was very twisty but beautiful... High scrub brush covered hills, gorges and flat grassland plateau at 5,000 ft . Quite the drive...definitely a motorcycle route! Prescott was windy and cold...also a gold/ copper mining area that was once for a short time the capital of Arizona....must have had lots of money because ther is an impressive courthouse and post office and tons of saloons on the old Main Street. We went to the tourism office and was told the area is now a destination for mt bikers and hikers with 500 routes/trails. Went for coffee at Cuppas a local coffee house...very friendly and good coffee . We split a BLT which was pretty good.

Left along Hwy 89 which continues very twisty, up and down gorges and hills...very impressive mountainous area. The sunset was gorgeous as there were lots of dark clouds and the Orange, pink color was incredible. Drove by a huge ranch...Maughan Ranch...looked it up and it covers 550,000 acres...the white metal fence along the hwy was impressive but it just went on and on.owned by Rex Maughan...started in the 60s. Saw a few catlike but later saw a huge feed lot below the last set of hills before Yarnell and Peeples. Definitely ranch country tho....lots of pick up trucks and Cowboys. Finally arrived in Wickenburg around 6:30 ,had wine at the motel....Los Viajeros Inn which was $75 with continental breakfast. It's similar to the one in Oak Creek but rooms are bigger and it has a big swimming pool. Went to Denny's for supper and actually had pretty good food....I had a seniors turkey dinner...real turkey! Now just repacked for the flight home tomorrow..
Had a nice vacation....great weather, great people, lots of fun.
