DAY 8: The St. James Way

Wednesday, August 21, 2013
Böhmfeld, Bavaria, Germany
The weather cleared overnight and the skies turned sunny and blue. Elisabeth's classmate, Pascal, was coming over to spend the morning, so we joined Oma and Opa Hauck for a walk along the local nature trail.

The nature trail passes just a few hundred meters from the Bauer's house and goes for nearly four miles through pastures, woods and farm fields. Somewhere along the walk our trail met up with another more well-known trail, the St James Way. So, for at least a short while, we too became pilgrims along "The Way".

We returned just in time to have some of the delicious pizza Charlotte had made for Mittagessen. We spent the afternoon playing games with the children, doing chores and catching up on our email.

For dinner, we walked to a small Gasthaus in the village. Der Becker Wirt is a true Gasthaus, with guest rooms upstairs. Apparently this place also has quite a reputation for their commitment to locally grown and organic food. In fact, several of the fields that we walked past during our nature walk are used to produce food for the restaurant. The chef and restaurant have won numerous awards. We all had a wonderful time, especially the children who found friends to play with in the family friendly atmosphere.

After dinner we walked back through the village under the full moon. It was a fitting end to another perfect day in the German countryside.
