DAY 9: in Wettstetten mit Sigrid

Thursday, August 22, 2013
Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany
Today is our day to visit with Sigrid, Dieter Salomon's wife. (Dieter was the eldest of the Salomon siblings and a big brother to Glenda during the year she lived in Germany.) Sigrid lives just a few miles away in Wettstetten, so Barbara and Sigi dropped us off before heading back to their home in Freiburg.

Sigrid greeted us warmly and introduced us to Sandra and Elias, her daughter-in-law and grandson. Sandra was busy working on renovations to their upstairs apartment, so we spent the morning chatting with Sigrid. We walked to the village for Mittagessen, where we had fettuccini with swordfish and penne with rabbit. During our tour of of the village we passed the new town hall and the church, as well as the May Pole, before stopping at the cemetery. (Wettstetten's May Pole was judged 3rd best in Bavaria for 2013.)

Back at home for the afternoon, Elias joined us while Sandra ran some errands. It took Elias a little time to open up, but he became more at ease when Glenda asked to play with his new train set. As we talked with Sigrid we learned that she too was traveling to Würzburg on Friday. Since we were traveling on the same train, we made plans to meet and make the trip together. Later in the afternoon Sigrid's son, Martin, joined us. He, Sandra, Sigrid and Elias gave us a tour of their spectacular garden before Sigrid drove us back to Böhmfeld.

We had one last Abendessen together with the Bauer family, before putting the children to bed. We shared one more glass of good German wine with Charlotte and Michael before heading off to bed ourselves.
