Powerscourt Gardens

Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland
A couple days ago we decided to take the bus to see the famous gardens of Powerscourt (http://powerscourt.com/) near the village of Enniskerry. According to its website, Powerscourt Gardens were voted the #3 gardens in the world by National Geographic and they are very impressive. First, however, we had to get there. Also, according to the website, they are 20 minutes from Dublin. Ha! That may be true if you are driving a fast car, but definitely not true when traveling by Dublin bus. I later talked to a lady who remarked that it always takes longer to get anywhere in Dublin that you think it will. Three buses and an hour and a half later, we arrived at the lovely village of Enniskerry. The trip was interesting, though, and we saw a lot of Dublin suburbs. Enniskerry and Powerscourt Gardens are at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains, a truly gorgeous mountain range of green rolling hills south of Dublin. You can tell from our pictures of Powerscourt Gardens that the gardens and the distant views are just brilliant. It was worth the trip to revel in the green, green vistas and colorful garden flowers. We stopped at a pub in Enniskerry, of course, and had a couple of Guinness' to fortify us for the trip. Guinness gives you strength, so say the Irish! Enjoy the photos of the world famous gardens. There was a wedding reception on the terrace while we were there, and it was a lovely venue for a special day.
