Dublin to Doolin

Doolin, County Clare, Ireland
On our second to last night in Dublin we went to the Gaity Theatre, the oldest theatre in Dublin, to see the legendary Riverdance. It's the 20th anniversary year for Riverdance and it's still as good as it was when it first hit Broadway. The music and dancing are the best of Irish theatre. Before the show we spent a couple hours in the pub across the street watching soccer on the big screen and drinking Guinness. We loved the music and dancing. The show tells the history of Ireland entirely through music and dance. Next day we packed and on Tuesday we boarded a train at Heuston station for Limerick on the west side of Ireland. This trip was very relaxing and comfortable and seemed to go quickly. In Limerick we boarded a bus to Shannon airport where we rented a car and drove to Doolin on the western coast of Ireland. We're staying in a very pleasant room at the Riverdale B&B just a mile outside of Doolin. The real draw here is the proprietor, Mary Fitzgerald, a widowed lady who runs the B&B. She is friendly and cheerful, and helpful with every aspect of our stay, from advice to where to go and what to see to serving up wonderful breakfasts every morning. We've made several long walks down to the ocean and pier, to Fishers Street to look in the shops, and down the lanes from our B&B to talk to the cows and pick wild blackberries. We generally go into town every evening for dinner in one of the four pubs in town. Every meal has been very good consisting of everything from 1/2 pound hamburgers, roast beef dinners, salmon and mussels and more. I had a wonderful baked goat cheese tart one afternoon for lunch with a salad that was really good.

We woke up early this morning to watch the Sun Devils play on streaming video through Cox TV's PAC 12 Network . Go Devils! They won and Cory was very happy to see his Devils play football again in the season opener.

The weather has been blustery and wet and cool here, but is promised to clear up and get warmer tomorrow and Sunday, so we're going to take the ferry boat to the Arran islands and Cliffs of Moher. We enjoy having the leisure to wait for good weather and spend the cold, blustery days taking shorter walks during the sunnier times and reading by the fireplace during the rainy times. We'll post more when we have pics of the Arran Islands.

Next week we go to Praia de Luz in Portugal's Algarve region which is supposed to be sunny and warm by the ocean. We look forward to putting on shorts and tshirts again.
