Endlesss Summer in Luz

Praia de Luz, Faro, Portugal
This is our last week in Luz. On Saturday we travel to Barcelona. While we'll be sad to leave this beautiful beach town, we're looking forward to seeing Barcelona. Everyone always ewws and aahs when we say we are going to Barcelona and that it is a fantastic place, so we're excited to see it. This week we're noticing the slight changes in the seasons in Luz. While it's still an endless summer here, most off the younger families have departed and only the retirees are left. The mornings and evening breezes are just a bit cooler and the pace of life here is even slower, if that's possible. There are fewer people on the beach, in the restaurants and on the beach walk. We've adapted too well to the slower pace and perhaps the move to Barcelona is just in time to rouse us out of our sun-induced laziness!

Last night on Skype, Jay asked what we did today . We generally sleep until 8 or 9 am, and then I take a 1/2 mile walk to the Baptista Supermercado to pick up whatever groceries we need while Cory wakes up and reads his email and the news on the couch. After late breakfast, we take a walk on the beach. At low tide we can walk all the way to huge rock that marks the farthest point of the Luz beach. This week there have been very few people on the far end of the beach, and Cory drew a romantic heart in the sand with our names in it. We get back to the apartment, clean off the sand, have a light lunch and head for the pool with our books. We generally read and chat with others at the pool for the afternoon. Around 5 pm the shadows are getting longer and the sun fading, so we clean up and either go out to dinner or fix one here. Dinner out is usually the entire evening and we don't get back until 10 pm or so. We walk around the village deciding where to eat, talk to people we see and just relax. As you can see, our days are really lazy and wonderful. However, even beach holidays must end, so we'll be off to the city on Sunday for the next adventure. Enjoy a few pictures of our lazy days in Luz.
