Home Sweet Home Alabama

Lillian, Alabama, United States
Thursday Sept 12
An early start was important as we wanted to clear Atlanta before 3 PM and hopefully avoid “rush hour”, but it took as a while longer to actually leave @7:20 rather than 6. Then the first road we encountered in S. Carolina that was to get us over to Interstate 20 was closed and took us on a LONG detour . We stopped for a “top off fill up” at a Flying J outside of Columbia at $2.11 per gallon and got right back on the road. Changing drivers to keep fresh we pushed on thur S. Carolina and entered Georgia at beautiful Agusta  and actually got to Atlanta and beat the 3PM target.
Our “big wheelie house” was pushing thru Georgia on I-85  and we entered Alabama about dinner time, driving thru Auburn, past Tuskegee, and to Montgomery and finally connecting to I-65 South! Just 180 miles to go! Now when we left June 30 there was PLENTY of daylight left at this hour but by September we realized we were just not going to get home before dark!
Parking,(backing), the motor home between the house, the electric pole, the bushes on the property line and keeping on the concrete pad under foot is a task! Debbie did a great job of directing the backing and within minutes of arrival we were level, parked, plugged in and unloading! The Dogs were happily rediscovering their property, Deb and I shared a “HIGH FIVE” and after a little unloading and snack that “sleep number” bed looked inviting.

People always ask about the economics of owing a motor home. Short answer it is not economical! Beside the cost of Purchase, operation costs are large Our trip with relatively low gasoline prices rang up $980. In gasoline costs. However, there were a total of $89 in lodging costs for 75 days
