I awoke early to work on pictures and watch the countryside
as we sailed to Regensburg. It was easy to see that the river had been reduced
in size. The Inn River provided just as much water as the Danube below Passau.
With less water, the width of the river was dramatically reduced!!!

Kim and I walked up to the Stone Bridge to kill some time
before our tour started at 9:30. It was cool to see the port area without a ton
of people. We just got back in time to catch our tour. When we set out on the
walking tour, four or five ships were pouring out tourists!!! Even as we were
touring the city, there were always two or three groups bumping into us!!! The
tour guides have to set their itinerary around other groups.
While I liked the
overview tour, the Jewish extension seemed a little forced into the tour.
I guess my expectation is that these walking tours are going
to have some depth and time to really explore the stops. I must reset my
expectations that these walking tours are just to give an overview of the city!
After lunch, we walked over the Stone Bridge and then made our way through most
of the areas we went through on the walking tour.
Kim wanted to try the Bratwurst at the Bratwurstkuchl. It is
being billed as the oldest continuously open, public restaurant in the world.
Mmmmm, bratwurst – Mmmmmm!! They only have one sized bratwurst, so you get to
order the number you want. We got a sandwich with sauerkraut and sweet mustard.
It had four bratwursts!!!

There had been a “rumor” going around the ship that a lock
on the Main-Danube Canal had been damaged and was out of service until it was repaired.
From past blogs that I had read, your river cruise turns to a bus cruise with
overnights in hotels. Uggg! It would not be the ideal, but it is what would
have to be done! Viking is trying to keep us informed, but I think they give us
enough information to keep us from revolting!!!
At the Port Talk tonight, they informed us that the lock had
been fixed and we would be going through. Depending on how many ships are in
front of us, we may get through tonight. Tomorrow, we will be bussed to
Nuremburg and back to where the ship makes it. I assume it will be the same for
Bamburg!!
