Historical Ruins

Selcuk, Izmir, Turkey
Selcuk is near numerous places of archaeological significance. The 6th century Basilica of St. John was probably my favorite, largely because I got up early and had the place to myself before the loads of tour buses arrived in the late morning. The Isa Bey Mosque was constructed in the 14th Century.
Just outside the town are even older Greek ruins: the city of Ephesus houses an amphitheater, the Library of Celsus and what little remains of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world.
