New Orleans, Louisiana, United States
I followed up my 11th place performance in the 2004 National Scrabble Championship with a couple days touring pre-Katrina New Orleans. I took a cemetery tour through the famous crypts and tombs of the city, a a "ghost tour" of the haunted and infamous buildings (where I got to enjoy a drink at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, allegedly the oldest bar in America) and a swamp tour, where I got to see some beautiful birds, plants, and of course, alligators.

I also did independent visits to the old mint, the French Quarter, the aquarium, Cafe du Monde, and the Ripley's Believe-it-or-not Museum .

New Orleans is an incredibly diverse and lively city. The cemeteries and colonial architecture are really spectacular and unlike anything else in America. You can really see the combined French and Spanish influence, as well as the necessary adjustments to the city's unique geography (e.g., above ground crypts).

I probably enjoyed the aquarium and the swamp tour the most, but it was all a great experience.
