Flying out of LAX on Christmas eve, I spent my (shortened) Christmas Day on a 14 hour Korean Airlines flight to Seoul, and then a 6 hour connection to Bangkok, finally arriving at about 1 in the morning on the 26th.
Our group spent a couple days in Bangkok seeing the top tourists sites before we undertook our bus ride north
. Bangkok is a remarkable city--it's a huge crowded capital, but it doesn't feel overwhelming like a lot of big cities. The traffic is bad but survivable. Even the vendors hawking their tchotchkes to the tourists seemed friendlier and less aggressive than elsewhere.
And there are lots of incredible things to see and do--the Golden Buddha, the Reclining Buddha, Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, the White Marble Palace, etc. Probably my favorite thing to was taking the river cruise.
