The architecture of the Angkor complex in Cambodia is truly spectacular. It's remarkable that it survived the horrors of the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror and destruction. Angkor Wat
is the most famous, and justly so, but it is really just the jewel in the crown. There are scores of different temples in various stages of disrepair, some nearly obliterated, others still relatively intact. We saw most of the major structure: Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm, Banteay Srei, etc.
We also got to visit the famous floating village on Tonle Sap lake. And, on the last day of the trip, the greatest sight yet: sunrise over Angkor Wat.
The building rapidly changes colors in the waxing light. A few more temples finished out our tour, and then at 7 pm that day, we departed Cambodia. An hour long flight to Bangkok, a five hour layover, a six hour flight to Seoul, a seven hour layover, and then a thirteen hour long flight to Los Angeles, and I was home, a mere two full days after i had last lay in a proper bed.
