The journey begins in London

London, England, United Kingdom
After a hectic week of packing and moving, cleaning and running errands in preparation for a year abroad, we're finally here in London. The trip over to London went off very smoothly. We were seen off at the airport by Braeden and John and we were first in line to check in with Virgin Atlantic. We had three large duffel bags and two bikes, all packaged up. After a filling dinner at Whitespot polished off with a milkshake, we headed to our departure gate. We made a few last calls to family but they boarded the flight earlier than expected so we didn't have a chance to call everyone.

The 10 hour flight was uneventful (which is a good thing! ) but I have to say that Virgin should really update their aircraft (I guess the YVR-LHR isn't a major route for them). The upholstery seemed like it was from the 80's as was the in-flight entertainment system. At the end of the day though, we arrived safely at Heathrow in sunny weather and all our luggage arrived, too - so I guess I shouldn't be complaining! We got through immigration and customs in just 20 mins! No lines, no hassle. It was painless and were pleasantly surprised. We were met by Dennis from VW Camper Sales (this is the business from which we purchased our campervan) and he took our bikes and duffel bags away (which we'll pickup on Monday when we go to get our van). This allowed us to travel into London with just a backpack (phew!). We caught the Undeground, heading to Old Street Station, with a change at Kings Cross station.

Both of us were pretty exhausted by this point and a near 1.5 hr ride on the underground brought us to Old Street. We walked the rest of the way to Aksinia's apartment and believe it or not, we ran into Aksinia on the road! She managed to get a last minute ticket to the Athletics tonight so she was frantically making her way to the venue. We exchanged a quick hug and she went on her way as we sought out the apartment.

We made a simple dinner of spaghetti with red sauce and sauteed mushrooms and settled in for the night. Meghan is fast asleep and I'm wide awake - it's 11:15 now and Aksinia has returned so I'm off for the night.
