Forni di Sopra, a quick visit

Forni di Sopra, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy
We packed up camp (Dad & Tan for the last time) and headed up to Forni di Sopra to spend the night with Sue & Dino. Unfortunately we could only stay for the night, but we said we'd be back for a longer visit in a few weeks if that worked for them. We arrived in time for lunch and Sue had made a delicious risotto which I had raved about to Tan earlier. After lunch we went out for a walk around town and down to the duck pond to show Dad & Tan around while Sue taught piano. We arrived back at the house and had a good chance to catch up on news before dinner. Afterwards we looked at Sue’s old slides that she had transferred on to the computer from the time she, Dad, Mom and a group of their friends went to Hawaii when they were in their late teens/early twenties. It was really fun seeing all the old photos and we were amazed at how much hair everyone seemed to have back then!

The next morning we headed off around 10 since we had about 6 hours of driving to reach Davos. The visit was much too short and we were glad that we could come back for a longer one in a few short weeks. We set off with Tan in the front this time so that she could have a better view. It was quite grey and many of the mountain peaks were clouded in, but it was still quite pretty. We stopped for photos a few times along the way and rotated who rode in the front. After about 1.5 hours we felt like we could use a snack and washroom break and I spotted a nice looking restaurant beside a small lake. I pulled over and we headed inside. They had wonderful looking cakes so we each chose a slice of something and a cappuccino to enjoy outside in the sun that had broken through. They were all delicious and we mentally marked the spot on our map in case we passed by again. We set off once again stopping along the autoroute a little further on for a picnic lunch. On the edge of Italy before crossing in to Switzerland there is a huge apple growing area. There were tons and tons of orchards fully laden with apples and lots of tractors driving huge loads along the road in front of us. We stopped at one stand and picked up a few; they were sooo tasty we later wished we had bought more! After we crossed the border we climbed up and over a few mountain passes which had beautiful views before arriving in Davos. Dad & Tan’s friends, Magge & Connie and their two kids, Alison and Amy, live in Davos and had invited us all back there for a few days. We looked forward to the chance to get out of the van for a while and enjoy the amenities of a house!
