Day trip to Sitges

Sitges, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands
Keith and I headed off to Sitges around mid-morning while Meghan decided to have a rest day since she wasn't feeling very well. We already knew that the attendant at the train station didn’t speak English so we asked in our not-so-flawless Catalunian how to get to Sitges. Between half-understanding what he said and some gesturing, we managed to get return tickets from El Masnou to Sitges. We hopped off the train at Plaza Catalunya as instructed to switch lines but weren’t able to locate our train. So we went up to the info booth and when we asked where to catch the train to Sitges, we were told that he had to go one train station further and then catch the R2. We had a good chuckle because the attendant this morning had so confidently, but incorrectly, told us to switch at Pl. Catalunya. We finally arrived in Sitges around half past noon and stopped by the TI to get a map of town. There were really no sights to visit in town since two of the three museums were closed for renovations but it was still supposed to be a cute little resort town that provided a good break from hectic Barcelona.

So our first agenda item was to browse the town for lunch menus that looked appetizing. We wandered through the tiny town and soon put our map away since it was pretty easy to find our way around with the town sandwiched between the train station and the ocean. After browsing a number of menus that we could only partially decipher, we settled on a restaurant that had a couple patrons already (usually a good sign). Keith went with tomato and bacon pasta, fish and grilled vegetables and a chocolate brownie with ice cream. I went with the tomato/mozzarella piadina with arugula, stuffed chicken breast with couscous and crème caramel for dessert. We both really enjoyed our meals and left completely stuffed as we headed back through town towards the waterfront for a short stroll along the promenade. It was a beautiful day out, with a light breeze and the sun shining brightly. We walked for about half an hour, digesting lunch and then turned around and made our way back towards the train station. It had been a positively relaxing day compared to our past few days in Barcelona and was a nice break after our several days of busy sightseeing.
