We headed out around 8 am to check out the nearby Eumundi
market. It is held every Wednesday and Saturday and is the largest in the
region. We were glad to get there early as we were able to find parking easily
and were able to browse most of the stalls without great crowds around us.
There
were the usual market stalls selling clothes, imported knickknacks, soap,
homemade preserves etc. The farmer’s market is held on Fridays and so there
wasn’t much produce for sale at this one. We did see a few small stands selling
passionfruit, pineapple, tomatoes, and ginger among other things. We enjoyed
browsing and picking up a few items here and there. As the day heated up, we
paused to try an “iceblock” aka popsicle. These were more than your ordinary
popsicles however and were made with fresh fruit. I tried a mango, guava,
orange one while Anoop opted for the mango, passionfruit, coconut. Both were
delicious and very refreshing! Before heading out we thought we’d check out the
food vendors to have a picnic. We chose a tasty looking wood-fired pizza, but
the line was a bit long and it took longer to get our pizza than we’d planned.
Instead of a picnic we returned home for Rhys’ nap and ate it there. Rhys was
amazing and sat happily in his stroller for the 3 hours we were there!
Afterwards we set off for Noosa Heads National Park, a short
drive from where we were staying. There was a recommended coastal walk to do
where you might spot koalas as well as dolphins and whales.
The first kilometre
of the path was paved which meant Rhys could run along without any problem (he
tired himself out after about 600m). The walk was beautiful with views out to
sea on one side and lovely treed areas on the other. We passed by eucalyptus
and tea tree as well as many others we didn’t recognize. Unfortunately we did
not spot a koala! There were lots of coves with swimmers (despite the warnings
not to) and further out were pockets of surfers. Some of them were really good
and we watched a couple of them ride their wave. We arrived at Dolphin Point
where there was a good lookout with lots of benches. We had a quick look before
continuing on our way as there was one more viewpoint we hoped to make before
dark. Shankar walked a little ways further with us and then decided to wander
back more slowly and meet us at Dolphin Point.
We trekked along on an easy
winding path out on the headland which became more rugged looking as we went.
The waves got bigger and the vegetation got shorter. As we neared the lookout
we spotted a whale spouting offshore. It was quite a ways out, but we managed
to see it a few times before it dove under. The lookout gave us great views
around the next cove and of the huge waves rolling in. Since the sun was
starting to set, we headed back at a speedy pace to meet back up with Shankar.
We saw the sun set along the walk back and enjoyed the lovely colours.
