Montville

Montville, Queensland, Australia
It was hard to believe that it was the last day of our road trip already. We were making our way south back towards the Gold Coast and had decided to break up the long driving day by stopping around Montville for lunch. Pretty soon after we left, we spotted a couple of pineapple farms along the main highway and decided to pull over at one of them. We couldn’t believe the prices of pineapples so between my mom and I, we got a box of juicing/jam pineapples ($6 for about 10) and a box for eating ($10 for about 10)! We learned that pineapple bushes take about 3 years to mature before they start producing fruit and each pineapple can take up to 1 year to grow! It was definitely a squeeze in the car but we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to eat and jam these delicious pineapples.
We arrived just around noon at a lagoon-side fish n’ chips restaurant. We got a couple of different types of fish and large basket of chips. The fish was perfectly cooked and the chips were crispy. We all enjoyed the lunch and Rhys especially had fun running around in the large park and looking at the ducks. We then had a short drive to Montville where we stopped to do some window shopping. It was a cute little town with a lot of tourist shops including some that displayed crafts from local artists. After perusing the shops for over an hour, we didn’t end up finding anything particularly eye catching.  My parents had been cruising the shops at their own pace and they, too, didn’t find anything to purchase. Just before we got back in the car, we changed Rhys’ diaper and I managed to take him to pee at one of the public washrooms. Rhys has been very accommodating this whole trip when it comes to diapering and going potty and it’s definitely been easier for us because Australia has had the best equipped, cleanest and extremely well marked public washrooms hands down.  We hopped back in the car (which was now thoroughly smelling of pineapples!) and drove non-stop for about 2 hrs until we reached home. We were all tired but had had a very enjoyable trip.
