Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
The cruise is very comfortable with great food and service, we are really happy (the seas have been kind) and haven’t even visited any island stopovers. The crossing from LA to Honolulu is approximately 4000kms and the water depth in parts is well over 5000 metres. The food is consistently exceptional and the service is friendly and very efficient with the staff appearing to really like their roles. We’ve spoken to the captain several times and enjoyed asking him about boating details that we can relate to like how much fuel burn per hour and how much fuel the ship holds. 2000 litres per hour and 1 million litres.
We thought six days at sea was going to be very long, but in fact we have found it a nice time to cure the jet lag and start to unwind.
Our first stop is Honolulu that covers an area of approximately 177.2 square kilometres. Honolulu is the most populous city in Hawaii. As of 2020, its population was around 347,397 people, making it the eleventh largest city in the United States.
First stop was the Pearl Harbor Memorial, also known as the USS Arizona Memorial. The USS Arizona Memorial is dedicated to honoring the memory of the 1,177 crew members who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941, which brought the United States into World War II. The memorial is a white, floating structure that straddles the sunken hull of the USS Arizona battleship, which remains submerged in the harbour. When you get off the ferry when you arrive at the memorial, you encounter that strong oil odour, still slowly leaking from the ship. Back on the mainland the  site includes a museum  and theatre that played a 15 minute video about the lead up and that tragic day. So sad and we still talk about how they detected the planes, but disregarded them assuming they were their own planes coming from the mainland, that just happened to be expected around the same day. Moving on we visited the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The drive to the cemetery had the most amazing view over Honolulu. Another sad place and a poignant reminder of this tragic event and the sacrifice of those who lost their lives that day. Many of the houses here are modest (some are also very expensive) and it currently also unseasonably very dry and hot here.
Last stop was Waikiki beach, for a welcome drink and snack. Waikiki Beach is an iconic  destination in Honolulu, Hawaii, known for its golden sands, gentle waves, and vibrant atmosphere. Well known for swimming, surfing, dining, and stunning sunsets. It's family friendly, with massive hotels, up market shops, and cultural events nearby. It was Saturday and the beach was packed. We found some seats and just took in that amazing view. The weather has been so nice and the seas have been amazingly calm (fingers crossed that continues……).
All in all a quick but wonderful time here, we will definitely come back and stay a little longer.
