Kiritimati, Line Islands, Kiribati
Christmas Island, which is part of the Republic of Kiribati, is located in the Pacific Ocean. Situated in the Line Islands group of the central Pacific Ocean, approximately 2,800 kilometres south of Hawaii. The land area is relatively small, covering about 243 square kilometres. It has a population of around  1,200 people. The economy of Christmas Island is primarily based on subsistence agriculture, fishing, and copra production (dried coconut meat). The Island follows the UTC+14:00 time zone, making it one of the first places in the world to welcome each new day.
It faces challenges related to climate change and rising sea levels. The government of Kiribati has been advocating for climate change awareness and sustainability. The welcoming community here were so cute, the little children dancing and local shell jewellery, shirts etc on display and for sale.
We walked around to the lagoon and went for a relaxing swim on the white sandy beach in the warm turquoise water. Mark had a snorkel and said there was only a few fish to report and lots of broken coral. We didn’t really venture much further as it was very hot and then centre of town was several kilometres away. We were keen to get back to the ship after our short excursion. Back on board we enjoyed a very popular Abba sail away which was lots of fun.

Interesting to me.Bruce and I seriously looked at buying our first pharmacy at Christmas Islands, but then decided it was just a bit too remote for us at that stage of our lives. Glad we made that decision. Enjoy love Cas
