Hello from Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island, Norfolk Island
Norfolk Island. Named and claimed by Captain Cook during 1774 voyage. In 1788 the British created a penal colony to cultivate flax (high fibre plant) on the island, but that endeavour failed as the island was too far from the mainland and offered no safe harbours for shipping. Convicts Sites designation of UNESCO World Heritage status. Museums, fortresses and other sites are scattered on the island.
On our way to Norfolk we have had some huge seas and it has been a bit rocky.
Today our ship arrived early at Norfolk Island and as we sailed around the island we saw the container ships taking shelter from the high seas.  We knew this was not a good sign and it was doubtful we were going to be able to tender in. So with the 5 metre swells and 40 knot winds the Captain confirmed our thoughts and called off our visit. This has been a big disappointment to us both.
We have now turned around and are sailing directly into the swells and wind (Mark really likes this and is probably the only person on board that does) to Milford Sound. We will now spend the next 3 days at sea.
