Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand
We sailed into Auckland and the weather was fine and about 28 degrees. After disembarking and then checking into our hotel we caught the ferry to Waiheke Island. It's a 45 min ferry ride from Auckland harbour, has a population of 9,000 and relies solely on rainwater for its water supply. There are 32 vineyards, some new and some well established. The vines were loaded full of grapes and appeared ready for harvest. The island has beautiful bays with white sandy beaches and numerous bars and restaurants. You can also Zipline here as well.  We used the hop on, hop off bus to explore about a third of the island. In the afternoon we stopped off at a couple a wineries and did some tastings. All in all a nice day which was a pleasant surprise as we didn't really know much about Waiheke Island. We would say it a great place to visit if you come to Auckland.
