Dublin
We left from Port at 9am we landed in Sydney without any delays, ensuring a flight out of the international terminal on the same day.
After a 5 hour flight we had a stop over in Darwin. Then it was a 17 hour flight to London, Heathrow. It wasn’t too busy and we arrived at 6am in the morning. We managed to quickly navigate a train to our next terminal and catch our flight to Dublin with only a short delay. However, after 36 hours we were ready to arrive. With only 6 hours sleep we checked into our hotel and had a shower. We decided to keep going or we would crash and burn. Off to the pub and check out the streets of Dublin. A quick pint and champayne and then a long awaited catch up with Bec and Tim as they have been over in Europe travelling around for the last 6 weeks. We had a couple of drinks and checked out the famous Temple Bar. The Irish are friendly and like the Aussies. With live entertainment here every night this place is certainly the place you have to experience in Dublin.
We had only 1 more day in Dublin and we had to fit a lot in. After breakfast we walked to the Trinity College. The college has. 20,000 students and has the famous old library and the “Book of Kells ”. The Book of Kells contains the four Gospels in Latin based on the Vulgate text which St Jerome completed in 384AD, intermixed with readings from the earlier Old Latin translation. It is written on 185 calf skins and 1 page is turned every day. It has been re-written by monks and really well illustrated of first 4 books of the New Testament. The old library looked like something out of Harry Potter home to more than a million books. It also has the old Brian Boru Harp which is the model for the insignia of Ireland.
We then jumped on the hop on hop off bus and checked out the local sights. There is a lot going on here at the moment with a bank holiday long weekend. The traffic was very busy. Dublin has a population of 2,000,000 people and the Irish people are kind and just want to have fun. We got off at the goal and had a look at the museum. Back on at the bus and we got off and walked to a local pub for lunch to meet up with Tim and Bec. A Guinness pie for me and tomato soup for Mark absolutely delicious. Then off to the Guinness Storehouse. After the walk through it was up to the top bar for a pint of Guinness. The bar had the best panoramic view of Dublin. Back to the temple district for some old fashioned Irish hospitality. We even found some Corona on tap.
