It‘s so cold here in Europe

London, England, United Kingdom

We’ve been
in Jersey for going on for three and a half weeks now and it’s been one round
of eating after another . Mum, along with all our friends and relation are fine
and well, but I think that Jersey in the
winter (particularly January) is totally boring. They even (if you can believe
this) roll up the pavements so the only thing that moves are the few leaves in
the gutters. Having said this though, New Years Eve was a great success and
thoroughly enjoyable. What it has done however, is given us time to plan where
we’re off to next, and those plans, are now all in place.

Before I
tell you where though, last week Dyana & I were eating at one of the beach
cafe’s all dressed up in our thermals, fleeces et al when I noticed something
you really won’t see every day: a proper fire in the back of a van. Click on
the picture and it should turn into a short video. You probably won’t believe
it either, but there it was; right outside the cafe. Hope you like it.

The second
thing that might be worth watching is the way they till the soil for the famous
Jersey Royal Potatoes . Generally planted on the side of quite a steep hill. Too
steep in fact for Tractors to go up and down. What they do is have a gadget
that looks like a small tricycle with a tilling plough beneath it. A cable goes
from the ‘plough’ to a winch on the tractor at the top of the hill. A man runs
down the hill with it, and when at the bottom stands on it and the tractor then
pulls him up while digging a furrow in which to plant the crop. Click on the
picture which also turns into a short video.

Onwards now
with the trip.... our plan, is to go to Cornwall and visit some of the quaint fishing
villages dotted along that stretch of
coastline. They have such wonderful names such as Polperro, Mevagissey and
Fowey to mention a few. So many books and novels have been written about what
went o along this coastline it’s just a must to see. We’re staying there for 5
days and then back to London for a few days before setting off for a stone
walled town in Croatia called Dubrovnik. I expect it to be cold, but hey.......
it’s going to be February in the Balkans. It’s a very historic city with lots
to see and do there. Not exactly sure how long we’ll be there, but on the 4th
and 5th of March we’ll be at the Carnival in Venice.

We leave
first thing in the morning, so our next blog will be far more interesting. Till
then................
