Never Ever a Dull Moment With Us

Saint Martin, Saint Martin

So there we were, driving happily along in traffic, through a one way system, following a large open back lorry when all of a sudden it hit a really thick wooden pole, giving it a 'glancing blow' . WOW! And other words nearly similar went through my mind as it toppled slowly into the road right in front of us; as the lorry trundled merrily on its way down the road and around the corner. SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES we came to a very quick stop. The pole hit the road. The high
tension electricity cables came away from whatever was holding them to what used to be the top of the pole. The cables snapped, and I’m sure you’ve seen this sort of thing in American movies where the cables spark as they literally hisssss around on the ground; sparks flying everywhere. The car behind be managed to stop within a couple of centimetres of our bumper. And the car behind them and so on. I don’t know how there wasn’t an accident. Now to get
ourselves out! Easier said than done. The cables still sparking as they moved like snakes on the ground. Fortunately the car behind managed to turn round.... really slowly. In this situation you want to go as fast as you can. We had to sit and wait for him to go to make room for me to also make the U turn . When turning the car round had the car really close to one of the live cables while negotiating where the ditches were as well. Yet another hazard. But make it we
did... in the road-works as well. Breathing a sigh of relief as we drove away watching the hissing; sparking high tension cables angrily thrashing themselves on the roadway. So now I know it’s true. I know my number is not up, and we both have a long way to go.

Not that long to go now till we’re on our way back to the UK for our annual Christmas & New
Year bash with our family. Before that though, there is just so much we want to do over here. So a couple of days ago we went to Orient Beach, (one of our favourites) and while having lunch at the ‘Orange Fever’ beach bar, I took this video. Modesty............ well, let me know what you think after watching it! (Please click the picture which turns into a short video).

Oh! Yes! Nearly forgot.... I lost my glasses! Yes, well, it was a long storey, but in a nutshell, Dyana was at the helm of our little dingy as we were trying to come into the beach at Karacter, (an absolutely fabulous beach with excellent restaurant). And .... one second there I was, standing in the front of the boat, (fool me for doing that) anchor in hand and guess what .............. a split second later I was falling and tumbling into the wonderfully warm clear blue sea. Going head first! Fortunately! And on emerging to the surface just knew something was
different. Took a couple of seconds to realise, but by then it was too late. Yet another small wave had come by so that was that. And I didn’t even have time to kiss them goodbye!! Fortunately I have a spare pair, not a good as the original pair, so I’ve ordered more lenses and will have them fitted into a frame when back in England.

Already we’ve started laying ‘plans’ for travelling for the first three months of next year and I’ll tell you more about that on the next blog.

Went to a tug–of-war on the beach, hope you like the video.

You two certainly have some adventures! Love hearing that you are still having the time of your life, I'm very envious although not of the hissing cables!! Continue having fun. Much love xxx
