Back to the dry zone in Yala national park

Zainal had been told of a scenic road to take us down to Udawalawe where we going to stop at the elephant orphanage.  He hadn't been along this road and probably not many tourists had either..... It was the most lovely scenery we have seen, so much lush vegetation including tea growing and also paddy rice.  We arrived in Udawalawe just in time for the mid day feeding. The orphaned elephants are giving milk 4 times a day and are looked after at the orphanage until they can gradually be introduced into the Udawalawe park.  There must have been 50 or more from babies to 5yr olds and is a popular attraction with tourists and local school children.
From here it was a short drive to the edge of Yala National Park where we were staying in a tented camp the night.  We were also booked for a jeep safari in the park but had decided reports of 200 hundred jeeps or more didn't make for good game viewing and also we had been driving all day and it would have been a rush to fit the safari in.  The tented camp was out in the bush and seemed quite remote but was surrounded by protective wire to ward off any wandering elephants.  It seemed a bit out of our way to go and spend the night in a tent and not do the safari but never mind.
