Haría, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands
Cesar Manrique - painter, sculptor, architect, all round artist and local Lanzarotian (??) was a big influence on the development of Lanzarote as a tourist destination. In the 60's he saw how the tourist developments in Spain and the other Canaries islands were spoiling the coastline and urged the local Lanzarote government and planners not to follow suit. And to his credit he won. Whilst there are large hotels, villa developments, tourist trappings etc on the island they are low rise.
