Early morning flight from Paro to Kathmandu. Met at airport and transferred to the Shangri-La hotel
We realised that the Nepal visa we had obtained before this trip was not long enough, and short by a couple of days. So spent half a day at the visa office, with a member of staff from the hotel, extending the visa by the couple of days. Not really much of a hastle
Hired a taxi with another Druk trek couple for half a day taking in Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu valley 15km away. Due to its well preserved medieval nature, UNESCO inscribed Bhaktapur as a World Heritage Site since 1979. There was a lot of restoration going on to the wood and stone buildings as well as the footpaths, roads etc. Unfortunately Bhaktapur was badly damaged in the April 2015. Bhaktapur suffered extensively in the earthquake, with over 300 deaths and 2,000 wounded. Over 30,000 houses and 116 monuments were significantly damaged.
