Navplion, Peloponnisos Dytiki Ellada ke , Greece
Today we rented a car and drove through downtown Athens to escape to the Greek countryside. We only got lost a few times and honked at a few more times. The drive took 2 hours to Nafplion and it was worth the effort. Nafplion is a pretty resort town and is an escape for the wealthy Athenians. Our hotel is an old home that has been converted into a 5 room hotel. The owner welcomed us at the door, parked our car, carried our luggage, and then spent an hour pointing out the places to see in Nafplion. After a large lunch in a local taverna we were presented with an amazing dessert of apples, grapes, honey, and Greek yogurt. After we drove to Mycenae and climbed to the top to see the graves from 1500 BC. We then returned to Naplion and sat in a seaside bar and watched the sun set over the mountains. We were concerned about this side trip to Nafplion but it has been the highlight of our trip so far.
