Ferry to Crete

Elounda, Crete, Greece
We spent our last breakfast in Oia with a young Microsoft couple from Vancouver who we had met the day before. Billy had brought Veronica to Santorini to propose to her and she had just accepted.

We scheduled the 1 .5 hour boat trip from santorini to Crete to allow us to see some of the Cretian Sea. We were scheduled to depart at 6:00 pm however we were told that the sea was too rough and our departure would be delayed till midnight. The port is too far from town so we were stuck in an overcrowded waiting room with 250 other people. We finally got to board at midnight and the first thing the crew did was to distribute handfuls of barf bags to each person. A few of us managed to not need them but we were the exception. Renee used hers and mine as she suffered for 2 hours of heavy rocking and rolling.

We arrived in Crete at 2:30 however the rental car facilities were closed so we had to take a taxi to the hotel, 50 miles away. The taxi was a mess, the driver spoke no English, and he got lost. To top it off the taxi was stopped by the police for 15 minutes, for whatever reason we don't know however I suspect the police wanted their portion of the fare. We finally arrived at the hotel at 4:30 am. The hotel looks nice but we were so tired we had no time to view it.
