Udaipur, Rajasthan, India
Udaipur is known as Rajasthan's white city for the primary color of it's buildings. Surrounded by hills, set among several large lakes, and with a moderately-sized population, Udaipur is considered is considered one of India's most beautiful places. If some of it looks familiar, it may be because the James Bond film Octupussy was set and partially filmed there. Udaipur's main sight is the City Palace, Rajasthan's largest, which now mostly consists a museum. In addition there are a few havelis (large merchant homes) and temples to visit, but a visit to Udaipur is mostly about strolling along Lake Pichola and through the alleys of one of India's most pleasant cities.
