Gyangze - Hilltop Fortress and Monasteries

Gyangze, Tibet, China

From Shigatse it was a rather short drive to Gyantse, a
small city with an impressive monastery (Pelkhor Chode) and a hilltop fortress
(Gyantse Dzong) perched atop a rocky outcrop above the flat plain that doesn’t
seem like something natural . The town’s very unique sight is Gyantse Kumbum, a
nine-tiered chorten with many dozens of small chapels with ornate altars. Many
of my pictures are of the gods and demons and other scary statues in these
Kumbum’s nooks and crannies.
