Seeing Kusadasi

Kusadasi, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey
After the experiences at Ephesus yesterday, today seems like a bit of an anticlimax. David and I walked over to Pigeon Island and walked around it. It was a very restful walk, not too far and not too close. There are spring flowers all over the island, and some very good views of the harbor. The island has an old fort on it, which is locked up. I don't know if it is ever opened, but we were not able to go in. We did walk all around it, however, and admired the construction.
On the way back to the ship after our walk, we did some shopping to use up the last of our Turkish money, since we will be in Euro territory tomorrow. We bought a guide book and some dancing girl costumes for the girl grandchildren. When the person selling the costumes told us the price, I was really shocked -- I thought he said fifty dollars. I thought that was going to take some major bargaining, because I didn't think they were worth much over ten dollars US. Finally realizing the problem, he resorted to the old calculator trick, and spelled out 15 for us, and furthermore said he meant Turkish liras, not US dollars or euros. So he was asking about 10 dollars US. We had 75 lira and asked if we could get five costumes and four evil eye amulets for that. He said yes, and trhrew in two or three more amulets for free. I suspect we could have gotten the price lower, but everyone was happy: he made a good sale, and we got rid of our Turkish lira that were about to become worthless to us.
We tried to find a post office to mail some postcards, but could not find it where the map said. When we asked some of the people in the area, they told us where it was, but when we got there, we found it closed, so will have to mail them on the ship.
The ship sailed for Athens in mid-afternoon, so we didn't get to do anything else. I really enjoyed Turkey, and would like to go back for a more extensive stay.
