A Long Day of Public Transport

Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland
We knew we were going to have a long day today! We decided to take a cab to Euston this morning so that we wouldn't have to battle the crowds on the underground with our suitcases. What a great idea and so worth the 16 pounds cab fare. We found the ticket machines and turned all of our booking numbers into tickets. Then deposited ourselves on some seats to wait because we were a tad early. I went to the assistance centre and found a nice man and one of those beep beep cars who came nd picked Graeme, myself and our luggage up and ploughed through the crowds and deposited us right by the train door. He helped us in with our luggage and we were able to get sorted before any other passengers arrived... sooo good. We had a table seat and no one sat opposite us so we could spread out. The train took us through England and into Wales where there was plenty of snow on the hills. The day that had started out magnificently deteriorated into low cloud and rain... The trip is around 500 klms and took us 3 hours and 40 minutes. They had booked us a wheelchair from London and the guys came and took us the short walk to the ferry terminal and then because the weather was so bad the ferry was 2 hours late. Finally they came and picked us up again and loaded us onto a bus that took us to the ferry. A lift to the deck and we found a long seat that we could lie down on. I left Graeme and went to explore the ship. There were a couple of doors out onto the deck but because of the weather I couldn't get to the rails and besides it was freezing and blowing a gale!

The trip was uneventful and quite smooth . The captain told us that he was putting out the stabilisers and the boat hardly moved. I had taken some seasick medication just in case but I don't think I would have needed it. We pulled up at the Dubln port right on 7pm, picked up our suitcases and climbed on the bus to the Dublin centre. From there we caught another bus to the airport as Dublin doesn't have car hire places at either the ferry terminal or the city centre, particularly at 7 in the evening BLAH!!! We arrived at the airport, thankfully alighted at the right terminal, picked up our little car and headed for Swords where our B&B is located. After a bit of driving around because there was no house number listed we eventually found this lovely home and at 9:15 are ensconced in a comfy room... Ahhhhh Graeme did really well. Although it was a long day, we saw lots of the English and Welsh countryside and a lot of the sea!!!

That ferry looks very fancy and I'm glad the trip was smooth. After the gross Wellington /Picton trip we did, ferries aren't fun.

Now, enjoy Ireland, to be sure, to be sure.
