A Road Trip to Remember

Perth, Scotland, United Kingdom
We hadn't decided what to do today. It was going to be in hands of the weather gods! A rainy day would have seen us head straight across to Perth. The sun was out and doing its thing so we decided to go on a road trip north. Checking the map to get from Arrochar to Inverness and back down the other side was around 400 klms so we set off at about 9am and headed toward Fort William. There was snow around the mountains over the Trossachs. This was the same road that I took a few years ago on my own and had a similar day but no one to share it with so it was nice that Grady was here with me today.

The day was beautiful with minimal clouds and I was reminded of why I love Scotland around every corner . We followed Loch Lomond to the end and then Loch Ness where we stopped at Drumnadrochit and found Nessie. I'll attach a photo of Grady spotting Nessie in the swamp! We drove right through to Inverness and then back down the east side of the lochs. The road back to Perth is the A9 and was about 180klms. There were average speed cameras about every 5klms all the way and the speed kept changing so everyone maintained a slow speed. We were stuck behind a pair of trucks for about 40 minutes at 80klm/hr as that is their allowed speed. It was a long trip in spite of quite good roads. Luckily the scenery was beautiful and made up for the speed cameras.

We found out hotel in Perth and have parked across the road in the library car park. The only thng about this room is that it is on the second floor and has no lift so Grady has had to climb up all the stairs twice already. We had a beautiful dinner in the hotel restaurant and now ensconced in a lovely warm room. Off to Hadrian's Wall tomorrow!
