Shakedown Cruise to Lexington

Lexington, Michigan, United States
The weather looked good for a couple days so we decided to take a shakedown cruise to Lexington. We had spent one night on the boat at our home dock and were looking forward to a real cruise. We departed our dock about 10:00 AM. Lake Huron was perfect with light south winds and smooth seas. Charlie did amazingly well underway, though he needed to be at our feet at all times. We arrived at Lexington Harbor at 1:30 PM, bought some diesel, and settled in at a dock near the showers, shore heads, and grass for Charlie.

After lunch aboard we walked the town and visited an old friend at the Irish Rose . We took some ice cream back to the boat for evening dessert. After our foil dinner cooked on the boat grill, we took an evening walk on the breakwall.

No pictures for this post because John misplaced the camera :(

Monday morning we had an entertaining breakfast at Wimpy's and departed about 11:00 AM for Port Huron. We departed, that is, after a minor problem starting the starboard main engine. Pressing the start button had no effect. John to the engine room. Camille was impressed by his quickly diagnosing the problem then shorting the starter solenoid with a pair of channel lock pliers. Sparks flew and the engine jumped to life.

The wind was a little more brisk from the south with 1-2 foot waves. They smoothed out as we cruised closer to shore.

We arrived at our dock at about 2:15 PM. John wasn't as impressive entering the slip with the cross wind. At least it was quiet at the marina and nobody was on the dock watching.
