Clayton Day 2

Clayton, New York, United States
After a windy and rocky night at the dock, we did some housekeeping duties like laundry and grocery shopping and some maintainance on the HVAC system that decided not to work. It's back online and we're keeping warm on these cool nights.

We toured the Antique Boat Museum . It is a truly impressive museum. Camille kidded me for taking so many pictures when I was here in 2011. So I let her be in charge of the camera. She may have taken more photos than I did. If you like old boats of any size, this is the place to visit. We also are really impressed with the town of Clayton. It's very well kept with many older homes and businesses. They take very good advantage of the waterfront and are very welcoming of boaters. The dockmaster lent us his car to drive to the laundromat and the local supermarket gave us a ride back to the boat with our groceries. We had a nice dinner at a riverfront restaurant and are now waiting for the wind to die down overnight so we can get to the fuel dock for a fill up and pump out. My only complaint is that the marinas and docks are all exposed to the bay and St. Lawrence River. There are no breakwalls to block the waves so we are being rocked and rolled as we try to sleep. The forecast is for the wind to diminish overnight.

Tomorrow we plan to visit Boldt Castle. It is on Hart Island on the St. Lawrence River. They have a dock so we can take Meander to visit. When we leave there we will go back to Canada where we will probably not have internet access. For our next leg of our meander, we will be going up the Rideau Canal to Ottawa. So our next posts will probably originate from there. The canal is 127 miles long but we're not sure how long we'll take to travel it.

On a sad note we received word that our good friend Bill Barnhardt passed away this morning. It is always a chance you take when you leave for extended periods that important events back home may be missed. We are sorry that we will miss offering our condolences to Bill's family in person.

That's all for now. Thanks for following our trek.
