Ottawa Day 3

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
We really wanted to see the inside of the Parliament building but the day we got in the Italian prime minister was in town. Yesterday and today the Japanese prime minister was visiting. Therefore the building is closed to the public until tomorrow. So we extended our stay a day so we can visit it.

This morning we did a walking tour starting at the Bytown Museum. It is in the oldest stone structure in Ottawa. Colonel John By was in charge of building the Rideau Canal and the settlement was named in his honor. The town acquired a reputation as a dangerous and unsavory city due to all the canal workers here from various countries not getting along well. In order to have a chance to have the capital moved here they changed the name to Ottawa after an Indian tribe. While visiting the museum we noticed someone in a tour group with a name tag that listed their home town as Port Huron. We don't recall their name, but they, of course, had cruised aboard the Huron Lady.

We had lunch, toured the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, did some grocery shopping, and went back to the boat for dinner.

Today was a picture perfect day with temperatures near 70 with all sunshine. Ditto for tomorrow.
