Right up the coast is one last town before the Russian border (actually there's another town--but it looks like it's just a tourist resort catering to Russians). Xudat has a sleepy village feel with larges houses, each with a yard. Playing in the plaza a couple fellows came to listen and one of them seemed a little suspicious. He invites the Traveler to his house for lunch--but he feels uneasy about it... then the fellow insists on seeing the Traveler's passport. he refuses and finally the other guys made the busybody back off.
Over it's felt very safe here in Azerbaijan . hopefully this was a rare exception. Maybe being so close to Russia has something to do with it. Don't know if this guy is an undercover police, a thug, or just overly friendly. Anyways, the Traveler makes a beeline for the bus station, watching his back, and heads on his way.
