Harvesting the Grapes

Vosketap’, Ararat, Armenia
Around Voskatep are a series of vineyards with men and women hard at work harvesting the grapes. Nice to seem some sort of economic activity going on--though I hate to think what these people are getting paid. Up ahead is the destination of the tractors pulling carts with mountains of grapes: the Ararat wine factory.

He wonders how much of this wine is exported--and if so, how costly it must be to haul it all the way across Armenia, Georgia ... through Chechnya on some very rough, mountainous roads to finally get it to Russia.

You guys know that Turkey is just 5 miles away... I'll bet they'll pay a decent price for your wine... just an idea...

I understand why Armenia feels such animosity towards the Turks, but as a simple observer, cutting off all direct trade hurts Armenia a lot more than it hurts Turkey.
