The Armenian Obsession

Arevshat, Ararat, Armenia
Soon he reaches another village, where he takes refuge in the garden of a typical stone, cone-topped Armenian church. Fortunately the caretaker doesn't seem to mind.

He's soon joined by two cheerful teenage girls who are eager to practice their English . The first are the typical fare... where are you from... what are you doing here. But after about 30 seconds the conversation takes an odd twist.
"Do you know about what the Turks did to the Armenians?"

Uh... yeah... but what does that have to do with anything?... he wonders silently.

The girl continues with passion in her voice, "Everyone needs to know about what the Turks did to us--or else they will do it again!"

The Traveler understands a bit the frustration this girl--and many like her he will encounter on his journey through Armenia. Turkey has not only refused to acknowledge that they committed genocide against the Armenians 100 years ago, but they've also blackmailed any country who dares state that this even happened. So it's understandable that Armenians want to school any foreigner that arrives on a chapter in history they may not be aware of... But the idea that Turkey is right on the brink of launching a second genocide? Uh... don't think so...

"Do you know that there are still Armenians living in Turkey?" he asks the girl.

"Yes... but I can't imagine how they can live there..."
