1398. Hiking without a Guide

Tuesday, November 06, 2012
Tiguert, Souss-Massa-Drâa, Morocco
Day 162
2 hrs, 3 .0 kms

As I follow the road as it continues halfway up the steep hillside, I spot the European women with their guide as well as mule laden with supplies, hiking on another path below. It’s pretty rare that I spot other tourists doing long distance hiking through these river valleys—and it’s kind of cool to realize that I’m enjoying for free what other people are paying a good bit of money to do.

But then on the other hand, those ladies are “contributing to the local economy” a lot more than I am!

I take nice shot birdeye shot of the village, that follow a path down the hillside for a closer look. It’s a nice, compact village with narrow alleways, squeezed between the river valley and the steep hillside. Folks are quite helpful as well, pointing out the way for me… I try not to look to smug as I amble past the European ladies, guide-free…
