2069 The Local Swimming Hole

La Descubierta, Independencia, Dominican Republic
Day 3-029
3 hrs, 2 .1 kms

After Villa Jaragua, I walk the shady road for a while, enjoying the semi-rural vibe. Unfortunately the lake is too far to take any decent pictures and there's don't seem to be any busy roads heading towards it. This area does feel relatively safe, but I'm still going to err on the side of caution.

But next town I find something even better. I get off in La Desubierta and I notice people coming through the forest with their clothes all wet. Gotta see what that's about. I follow a stream that empties into a big pool/pond tucked in the forest, with folks of all ages bathing, swimming or just relaxing.

It's quite refreshing to see a different aspect to Dominican community life--after seeing nothing but shops, churches and plazas. It looks like the perfect spot to relax with your neighbors after a hot day--with no distinction between social classes.

I really would like to jump in a join them... but I feel a bit uneasy just entrusting all my valuables to someone... and a couple guys approach me in a suspicious manner when I set up to do my videoclip (ina discreet corner--I don't want to be chased off for taking videos of people bathing!)

So, no swim for me today... but I still enjoy the vibe of the town stream and pool of La Descubierta.
