Rüsselsheim am Main, Hesse, Germany
Day 3-074
10 hrs, 4 .2 kms
Day Totals: 16 hrs, 7.2 kms

It's only a couple kilometers on a peaceful bike path to Russelheim. Here I pause at the World War II war memorial. On the back side is a memorial to the suffering caused by hyperinflation preceding World War II... a not so subtle reminder of the connection between the two.

On ahead is a beautiful forest park, complete with... a castle! Yep. Two round stone towers with a bridge between them tucked in the forest--not a medieval castle, but a castle nonetheless.

Across from the castle is the mighty Main River, lined with trees and mighty industry. Russelheim itself hosts the original Opel factory, with a statue of Mr Opel himself at the entrance. Nope, this is not just some soulless Frankfurt suburb...

There's a large Turkish and Moroccan population here, with families strolling down the pedestrian street with women in traditional djellabas... past shops selling fancy Moroccan kaftans and spices. If there's racial/religious tension here, I'm certainly not feeling it. I imagine the Opel factory has provided good jobs to both German and immigrant workers...

And on that positive note... my journey comes to an end.
