Post-visit: The semi-oasis

Skoura, Souss-Massa-Drâa, Morocco
3 hrs, 5.4 kms

Day Totals: 16 hrs, 26 .4 kms

Back in Skoura, I quickly check into a hotel and sit down for a tagine.   it's not quite evening yet, but too late to try to do the last 26 kms of my hike from Skoura to Toundoute to make it a Superhike—and I’m feeling a bit tired out after walking in the sun for much of the day. But I figure I could do a little stroll around the oasis near Skoura.

Well, it’s only a semi-oasis, with scattered palm trees and dry farm plots that haven’t been used for a while. I the follow a dusty road to the wide riverbed, where dusk starts to set in, so I head down to the highway which I follow back into town.

I notice the kilometer marker: 42 kilometers to Ouarzazate That means that technically in one day I could walk walk to Ouarzazate and merge the two Superhikes and regions into one… But that’s 42 kilometers of boring, suns scorched moonscape. And besides, I don’t really see the point in merging Superhikes, as one big Superhike is not necessarily going to give me a greater feeling of accomplishment than two mid-size Superhikes.

Maybe someday I’ll come back to Morocco, hike across the country from north to south, merging all my Superhikes into one Megahike
